Batman Seifuku

Description

This is my Batman themed seifuku! I've wanted to get a seifuku for a while now, but I could never justify buying one. Well, I was really, super bored when I was in my final few weeks of pregnancy, so I decided to make one while waiting around at home. I literally was sewing this while having contractions before I went to the hospital lol. Needless to say, it is a really easy sewing project and not very time consuming. I didn't finish the hem or serge the inside seams because I want to wear it after I finish loosing my pregnancy weight. I'm loosing several pounds a week, and I just didn't think it prudent to finish it when I will end up having to take out a skirt panel or two eventually. The fabric I used is a DC licensed Batman print in cotton. It was really easy to work with, which was a nice change from the satin and other frilly fabrics I normally work with lol. I also used interfacing for the first time in the cape looking part of it, and that was an adventure. The interfacing I bought didn't have good instructions, so I ended up having to call my husband's aunt (who is a seamstress lady) in Canada in order to apply it properly. Once again, I ended up having to handstitch the whole thing, because I still can't find a sewing machine repair person in any of the towns where I have family. All in all it took me about 10 hours to handstitch, but if I had a machine, I suspect it would only have taken about 2 hours total.

On the topic of loosing weight, carrying around the extra weight during my pregnancy made me get overly bulky, muscular legs again :-/ I was really hoping that my legs wouldn't go back to their size from when I did a bunch of sports, but lo and behold, I have linebacker legs once again. The sad thing is that it took me several years of not doing anything hardcore in order for them to thin out. Also, I haven't lost all of my pregnancy weight in the photos I will be posting of this, so if anyone decides to be a smartass and post a comment about being "fat" I will not so kindly point out that I had a child about a month prior to this shoot and make you sound like a douche :)

An interesting note about this photoshoot: it was REALLY cold outside! Seriously, it was below freezing the entire time (@_@) To the surprise of my husband and Ken, my legs didn't get cold at all; it was probably due to the years I spent every spare time in an ice rink lol. My hands were a completely different story though. I ended up having to cut the shoot a bit short because I was starting to get the beginning signs of frostbite lol. Don't worry! All that happened were my hands getting red and a bit swollen; they went back to normal after a few hours indoors :)

I really like how it turned out, so I'm thinking of making several other themed seifuku as well for myself :)
